247hp RWHP near stock short block

    Setup:

    • Brand new stock 2000 model explorer roller shortblock
    • Trickflow Stage 1 Roller Cam
    • Trickflow Twisted Wedge Heads
    • Proform roller rockers (at the time, now gone to crane golds as the proforms are junk)
    • Weiand 7515 Xcellerator single plane intake
    • Edelbrock 1406 600cfm carb
    • 1/2 Inch phenolic spacer
    • ARP headbolts
    • MSD Blaster coil
    • MSD Billet Distriubutor
    • MSD 6A Ignition
    • AEM Wideband O2 sensor
    • Tri-y ceramic coated headers going into a bad press bent 2 1/4 dual exhaust
    • Tremec Tko 600 through 2.79s (now 3.5s)

I'm guessing a bit more cam and a bit more compression would give me a very solid bump up in hp. Replacing the exhaust wouldnt be a bad idea either. The wideband was very handy for tuning. Dyno opperator said it was pretty much spot on at WOT.

I think a dual plane intake would bump up power a lot like a weiand stealth.the xcelarater needs a agressive cam with headers to make power and high compression . the dual plane would be a cheaper way to make more power because it seems the intake is the only thing out of place.  what ratio rockers are you using?

Re: the dual plane - I suppose thats quite possible. I had the weiand lying around spare from an old motor so I used that. I stayed conservative on the cam so I didnt have to deal with piston/valve clearance and valve spring issues. The rockers are 1.6 ratio (i.e. stock ratio)

I'm pretty sure there would be a lot more in it with a bit more compression and a bit more cam.

I might get someone to put together an engine analyser model for me to see if the dual plane looks like it would make much of a difference. I wouldnt expect to get more than about 15hp difference from a different intake though. I suspect I have more headroom in the headers back exhaust.

A 5.0 ho with stock pistons , cam , 1.7 ratio rockers (keeps drivabilty because of cam) air flow reasearch heads , weiand stealth dual plane, and 625 cfm road demon jr is worth 405 hp at 6200rpm and 380lb-ft at 4800rpm at the flywheel

My guess is youre quoting the MM&FF article from a while back.  Many have said, and I agree, that Westech has one of those magical dynos that makes way more power than anyone else can get.  My guess is closer to 365hp.  To the OP, you should have a pretty nice combo thats streetable and will still make good power up top.

EDIT: wow, didnt realize this thread was so old. LOL
