Hi,
I`m new to the forum. I want to start warming over an old 87 merc woody wagon with a 1993 5.0 crate motor in it. It drives ok but I want to add as many horses to it without adding new heads or pistons or crank. I thought I would start with a 70mm throttle body, then add a cold air intake. Then I want to add headers. I have done a little reading and I thought the ford racing shorty headers would be a good fit. from there I am not sure what parts to go with. None of the sites I have shopped at have performance exhaust parts for an 87 Mercury Grand Marquis wagon. Since the car is pretty long and has full frame rails, I would try fitting the exhaust from an 1987 F-150 under there.
I am assuming that the engine is a 1993 because of the throttle body assembly, but it there a way to look on the engine block and know for sure? Also I don't know what heads are on it. I have heard the e6's breath pretty badly. again How do I tell?
I am a gearhead at heart and would like to get started on this before summer hits. All advice is appreciated.
Thanks,
87Merc
