I have a 1979 f150 with a 302. several years ago I fot a few bad teeth on the flywheel and changed it with a used one. this was before I knew about the 28 ounce-50 ounce-internal balance mess. It shook up and down so I took it out and found another one with the proper size weights. That solved the balance problem, but I got a new problem. I also along the way changed starters and now I cannot find a starter that doesn't grind like crazy after about 50 starts. (I only drive the truck a few weeks out of the year, so I forget what I have done to it year to year) I can take off the starter drive and the end of it will be worn to the point where it will not engage the flywheel. I switch it and it will start the truck for a while, but it sounds rough and continues to get worse until it won't start at all. I have been reading about the 157 and 164 tooth flywheel. I take it that I should have the 157 and the 164 would not work at all. I wonder if there are different starter drives? I have read about 9 and 10 tooth drives. I am at a loss here. Any advice?
