    302 out 351W in

I have a 302 in a CJ7. I was looking at some crate engines and seen that a 351W was just a few bucks more than replacing the early 70's 302. (D1MZ). Is that a e-z swap or am I going to run into bracket and mount issues. On a budget and don't want to spend the extra bucks just to have spend more on modifications or new brackets. I know the 351W is a little higher which is no problem. Just concerned about intake / exhaust manifolds and alternator brackets etc.. Assuming I purchase the 351W from the same build era.

Bracket issues, yes, you'll probably have some issues.
Motor mount issues, you'll be fine.
Intake manifolds are wider on a 351w, exhaust manifolds are similar, but the wider 351w will require exhaust modifications.  Usually headers don't swap well between engines, unless there is gobs of room under the hood.

Personally, I'd rebuild the 302"!  Check out my thread and you may be interested.

Thanks for the info. That's what I'll do. I don't want to "buy" anymore headaches than I have to. I am sure the 302 will push my little CJ just fine.  Looked at Enginekits.com and found the kit at a good price.  Thanks.  It has been years since I have done this. About 30 to be exact.  This is my mid life toy. What's a ball park $ figure  on machine work on the block these days?

    Re: 302 out 351W in

The local machinist here wants about $120 to bore and hone a V8 and $125 to deck a V8 block.  This also included hot tanking.  Figure you can add a couple hundred for a line hone, but usually that is not needed.

Next week (monday actually) I'm taking a block in to get it decked, line honed, bored, tanked, and new cam bearings installed.  I'll post the estimate online!

My experience with enginekits.com has usually been pretty good, but the last time wasn't so pleasing.  I ordered a set of Speed-Pro pistons, and they sent me Silv-O-lites.  They said the KB's were a substitute for the Speed-Pro's.  The pistons have a huge difference in valve relief and I wish Powerhouse would have called me and let me know about the pistons.  I wound up calling jegs because the Speed-Pro's were on back order, Jegs had a set to me in two days.  All in all, I'd deal with enginekits.com, but I'd probably call the phone number and talk to a person rather than ordering online.
