hello just wondering if there is a way to use a newer style intake gasket on 69 heads?...i have a gasket set for a 80 351 but the coolant ports are diffrent the heads and intake are L shaped but the gasket is a rectangle. when i put these on i leaked coolant and it went into the exhaust openings on the heads. i could order a proper set but figured i had these why not try them..anyways is there a way to make these work or what???

I cant remember what the shape of the water ports are, but it should be clear if you lay the gasket over the block and compare against the head. I remember looking at them and wondering if I could cut out the square to make the port rectangular.

 

Maybe the gasket is blocking off some of the key waterports in the old head resulting in a high pressure area that pushes out.

 

I'm pretty sure they must be quite different though because otherwise I probably would have tried to use them as well :D
