    351W Build Help

    Hi new to the forum-

Have a 351W bored 10 over, magnafluxed, line honed, decked (have to check how much) and coated with cosmoline, ross 10 over flat top (w/ valve reliefs) forged pistons, eagle stock length H beam rods, deep dual sump pan, berings and rings.  Stock crank with low limit grind.  Stock heads (prob not going to use) and Hooker super comp headers.

Need help figuring out what type of heads to use to get around 10.5:1 compression. Want to run on premium pump gas.  Have a Holley 750 DP carb already.  Too big?  Was thinking Victor Jr. intake, MSD 6A and MSD distributor.

Going into a 64 fairlane with 3.90:1 gears, 275/60/15 tires, stock AOD trans (will beef up later). Going to be a weekend street strip car.

Can I assemble myself, builder wanted to charge $700 to assemble the short block and balance.

I am on a budget and this is the last part on a frame up restomod and I want to get it on the street ASAP!

     Thanks

    Re: 351W Build Help

You need to measure (or get from your piston manufacturer) the voulme of the combustion chamber at TDC with stock heads (at whatever cc they are) and then vary that volume to get the correct ratio.

The piston manufacturer should be able to tell you this info.

You could assemble yourself, I did, and its not too hard if youre technically minded. However if youre going to run it on the strip much I would say that the warranty as well as the improved reliability/performance from balancing could be well worth the $700
