    1995 302 vs. 1983 302

I have a truck that the motor blew, will the older long block work?  Bellhousing, motor mounts, water pump, etc...

Yes it will. Water pump may be different so you might need to take that with you if you take the pulleys from the newer motor.

The main difference will be whether or not the cam is a roller cam. Aside from that the blocks etc will be functionally identical.

I'd swap the '95 timing cover over as well as the water pump just to make sure everything bolts up. Compare (or swap) oil pans. The '95 would have a knock sensor (I believe) and that may be a problem as the '83 block may not have a mounting point. Make double sure that it's an '83 engine as the balance changed in mid '82 from 28 oz to 50 oz. If it's an '83 then the '95 balancer and flexplate should work fine. Manifolds and all other (as far as I know) will bolt up. Good luck.

    I'm just a old vanner

Thaks for all the info, I never even thought about the knock sensor, and for sure the motor is an 83.

Thanks to everyone who replied through the e-mail as well.

If I get around to working on my T-bird I'll post some pics, but for now truck first...
