front or rear sump oil pan?

I am putting a 5.0 EFI engine from an 89 Crown Vic into a 72 Maverick. Will the engine install as-is or what type of oil pan do I have to get? The Mav had a 5.0 in it before I bought it and it came with a C-4 and a good set of headers.

Most any parts store, or Walmart, sells something called a tape measure or a ruler.  I find it invaluable in answering questions like this.

It should fit but might come a little close on the hood. Drop it in and *gently* test with plasticine. You want over 1/2in clearance for when the motor torques over.

If it doesnt fit easily you can try lowered motor mounts (e.g. ron morris/tcp)

i use a rear sump oil pan. btw, the oil pan is designed for a 1990 mustang and modified to fit the maverick. ill try to look for the manufacturer and will ask them how much it would be to modify (45 deg cut out). ill pm you the details.

Re: front or rear sump oil pan?

the easiest way would be to use a front sump oil pan and pick up.

are you going to use the efi or convert to carb?

no clearance issues with a carb unless you get wild with the intake ,

ive used rpm airgap with no clearance probs , a victor with carb is  will be very close to being to tall with out mods to hood or lower mounts. hope this helps

Go with the front sump pump pan.
