    Circle track ford

Hi guys i am new to this board so i hope you can help me,i trying to fine what would be the best heads to run on my 306 for circle track racing, some guys tell me gt40 heads are the best, some say world 200cc heads, the heads have to be cast iron,i am trying to make a ford compete against the chevy 602 crate engines,in 08 i beat 25 of them with my home made stroked 302,the problem is that engine blew her cookies last season and i am not suppose to race a stroker.what is the difference between the gt40 and gt40p heads.thanks

    Re: Circle track ford

There’s no replacement for displacement, your going to have to work that motor twice as hard to keep up with the big blocks on a circle track. It probably can be done the question is how long will it stay together? I know a guy who ran a 300 CI in line six against the big boys and was always in the top 10. He also rebuilt it every other weekend. Here’s a link for a flow chart that may help you make a decision. Good luck!                      http://www.carbdford.com/tech/flowdata.htm

    Re: Circle track ford

Thanks Dave,i ran a stock 302 with a cam and 200 cc head last season and i could run in the top 10,i just need a little more,so i am buying a 306  and having a cam ground for the track and buying another set of heads,i think with this setup i can beat the 350 crate motors 602 is the part number, they are only pushing out 300 horse,i think the 306 should push out that if not more,i raced a 347 stroker a couple of years ago and i could eat them alive,i found myself spinning the tires out of the corners, the 347 with the Keith Black shorty pistons cannot take the stress that oval track racing puts on a engine, the pistons don't have enough skirts to hold the pistons in the cylinder walls at high rpms.

    Re: Circle track ford

I thought that looked a little strange and might be a typo so I did a search and found that there are crate motors available in that cubic inch range and bigger. I hope the chart did you some good.
