    marine 302 questions

i rescently aquired a 1973 boat. not sure what model dont really care just wanted the motor. its a 302 came with an old holley carb and edelbrock performer intake. basically i would like to know what the main difference between a marine and street 302 are. the motor runs im just doing a quick tune up and need to know if i can go to autozone and say i have a 74 maverick with a 302, if those parts will be the same. i plan on replacing the spark plugs (so ill need to know gap and which plugs) ignition coil. distributor cap and rotor, carb rebuild kit (ill have to look the carb up) spark plug wires, a few hoses here and there, starter solenoid, and im going to rewire the whole motor. if anyone can help or give some friendly advice that would be appreciated, im very familiar with this motor, used to work very extensively on that 74 maverick ;), so just need to know the differences if any.

    thanks,

    colton

Yes you can go to autozone and do that. Besides maybe haveing a higher nickle content and brass freeze plugs, its a car motor. Just make sure the previous owner flushed the motor properly and all water passages are clear of corrosion... (If ran in salt water especially)

Some of them run in reverse rotation with special cranks and cams so check out the firing order.

thank you, other than having a different cam with a much different power band i figured they were just identical motors. im pretty sure this doesnt have a reverse crank on it so looks like im safe to start work on it now. thanks again.
