302 Windsor - Bolt On Upgrades

    302 Windsor - Bolt On Upgrades

    Hi All,

     Have just purchased a clean, low km's ZC fairlane.....Stock as a rock, down to original hub caps and cross ply tyres.....I am keen on a bit more power, but at this stage, just looking at bolt on gear....currently all stock, single barrel carb, stock intake, exhaust, cam etc....

    Am considering the following.....not keen on changing cam, porting heads etc at the moment.....just interested in bolt on stuff i can keep an eye out for on ebay / trading post etc....want to keep her stock as possile with minor mild upgrades....

    Intake Manifold

    - Am i better of with 4 barrell or two barrel manifold?

    -Assume dual plane is way to go?

    Who has used...edelbrock, weiand, Ford product....any comments or preferences? part numbers would be a god send if you swear by any of these proucts....

    Carb

    4 barrel or 2 barrel?

    Holley, Carter other? what size do you suggest?

    Ignition

    Has anyone used these cheap electronic dizzies of  ebay with coil in cap? there are two or three brands......any preference?

    Exhaust

    Do i go Tri Y or interference model? What is the major difference?

    Single system or twin system?

    Look forward to any basic info at this point in time....thanks for all replies in advance.

    if your gonna do the intake manifold may as well do the heads, 351w heads will bolt right on the 302, exelent upgrade. i would definatly try to stay away from ebay ignitions, just go autozone and get the cheapest performance distributer like accel but id rather go msd, for intake and carb i like edlebrock and 4 barrel, exhaust id spend a decent amout on headers and run a dual exhaust  dual cat and with an X pipe in the middle

    Thanks for the reply.....yeah, im thinking a little dual plan torker manifold and 500cfm 4 barrell carb....not sure wether to go a holley or carter thermoquad - the carter's are a dime a dozen, but not sure wether they are a decent carb or not? i like a holley, but are pricey for a rebuilt one.

     Surprised about your comments regarding the electronic dizzys.....a couple of people i know have bought them and reckon theyre ok....have you heard bad news stories about them?

    well hell, 500 cfm that aint bad, holly or not, id try it.really you want as much air and fuel you can get as possible, a good spark to burn it all, an exhaust to get it all out. and the dizzy thing, ive never heard of someone buying a used 1 from e-bay, and personaly i wouldnt trust it, but thats just me, ive had a bad expierence with e-bay it depends on who you buy from. i prefer useing  new components so that i know there good how cheap your trying to do it.
